CBGA Assessment of the Sheikh Hasina-Thavisin Summit, 2024: Towards Transforming Bangladesh-Thailand Partnership and Regional Diplomacy

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina paid a six-day official visit to Thailand on 24-29 April 2024. The visit is considered a milestone in deepening and widening of the bilateral partnership. The visit of Sheikh Hasina has further consolidated partnership taking the relations to a new level in the changed geopolitical and economic landscape in the region and beyond. During her visit, Sheikh Hasina had summit with her counter-part of Thailand, meeting with the H.E. Thai King and relevant policy makers in Thailand. Given the changing dynamics of regional and global politics, the visit is critical for Bangladesh as the country moves forward towards becoming a ‘developing’ country in 2026 and maintaining the economic progress that Bangladesh has achieved over the past fifteen years. In this context, the report analyzes different aspects of the outcomes of the visit of the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It argues that Bangladesh-Thailand relations have received a huge boost through the Sheikh Hasina-Thavisin Summit.
