Cancellation of US-Taliban Talks: What It Means for Afghanistan?


After two decades of military operation in Afghanistan, the United States (US) and foreign forces departed in 2021, which has collapsed the internationally backed Afghan government and the Taliban swept back as a new ruler of Afghanistan. The perennial recalcitrance between Taliban and the US has entered into new phase of sanctions. When the US withdrew its forces from Afghanistan, there was evidently little optimism that Washington and its European allies would have any appetite left for continuing to support the impoverished country, especially as an enemy had taken it over, they had fought for two decades.
