Bangladesh’s Advancement in the World Happiness Index 2022: A Comparison in South Asia

Happiness is a subjective matter as the meaning of happiness is not the same for everyone or every nation. Bhutan is a unique example that considers Gross National Happiness (GNH) to measure national development. World Happiness Report is an initiative under United Nations Sustainable Development Solution Network. It publishes a yearly happiness ranking of states based on respondents’ personal life evaluations, which the report also compares with numerous indicators related to the quality of life such as income, independence, trust, a long and healthy life expectancy, social support, and compassion. Bangladesh is placed 94th out of 146 countries in the latest report published on 18 March 2022, moving up seven notches from last year ahead of India, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.
